Marguzor Fm
Type Locality and Naming
By Lake Marguzor, Zarafshan Ridge. A.R.Muchaidze, D.A.Starshinin, A.I.Lavrusevich in 1967 (379, p. 58-59). Stratotype by the Kator stream, Magian river valley. Previously, the Marguzor Fm was considered as the upper sub-suite of the Pushevat Fm.
Synonym: Marguzorskaya Formation, Маргузорская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Rhythmically alternating sandstones, clay shales, siltstone (aleurolites) with layers of gravelites, conglomerates, less often, in the lower part - boulders and blocks (olistoliths) of limestones, volcanites, cherts, sandstones with fauna of Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, early-middle (up to late Moscovian substage inclusive) Carboniferous (315). In conglomerates, fragments of various intrusive and effusive rocks. Thickness 1000-1500m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformably overlies various older deposits, in Chakylkalyan and on the north slope of the Gissar Ridge unconformably on the Marguzor Fm and Bochauldin Fm
Upper contact
Upper contact unknown.
Regional extent
Chakylkalyan-North Gissar region, Zarafshan and north slope of the Gissar Ridge.
