Type Locality and Naming

By Lake Marguzor, Zarafshan Ridge. A.R.Muchaidze, D.A.Starshinin, A.I.Lavrusevich in 1967 (379, p. 58-59). Stratotype by the Kator stream, Magian river valley. Previously, the Marguzor Fm was considered as the upper sub-suite of the Pushevat Fm.

Synonym: Marguzorskaya Formation, Маргузорская св.

Lithology and Thickness

Rhythmically alternating sandstones, clay shales, siltstone (aleurolites) with layers of gravelites, conglomerates, less often, in the lower part - boulders and blocks (olistoliths) of limestones, volcanites, cherts, sandstones with fauna of Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, early-middle (up to late Moscovian substage inclusive) Carboniferous (315). In conglomerates, fragments of various intrusive and effusive rocks. Thickness 1000-1500m.

Lower contact

Unconformably overlies various older deposits, in Chakylkalyan and on the north slope of the Gissar Ridge unconformably on the Marguzor Fm and Bochauldin Fm

Age

Age of the suite - end of the Moscovian epoch of the middle Carboniferous-late Carboniferous. Previously, the Marguzor Fm was considered as the upper Pushevat Fm sub-suite in the span of the Tournaisian-Visean of the lower Carboniferous (289; 290). In the Strat. vol. (439) attributed to the lower Carboniferous; E.D.Bezuglov and V.S.Korsakov - as an analogue of the Darakhtisurkh suite and assigned it an age of middle-late Carboniferous (upper Paleozoic molasse); V.B.Averyanov, I.A.Bardashov, S.S.Karapetov, Z.Z.Muftiev, G.V.Fedorov, A.S.Shadchiev of the same opinion (Explanatory note to the working legend of the Zarafshan-Gissar series of sheets, 1978). On the State Geol.Map -500 of Uzbekistan (460) dated to the end of the Moscovian epoch-late Carboniferous.
